A Few Updates from Lately

As many of you know, Nathan just underwent foot surgery. Not something you want to do, ever, but especially not as a professional athlete who's career literally depends on your feet. So, initially we were  a little shocked by the news. Nathan has had previous foot injuries. He is a self proclaimed "expert on crutches," and it has always been because of something wrong with his right foot. So when he hurt it playing basketball about a month ago, it wasn't that shocking. We just hoped it was nothing serious. One MRI and one phone call with a very brief explanation later, Nathan was told to schedule a day for surgery after the doctor's two week vacation. You can imagine we had a lot of questions, but they were not going to get answered until the doctor was back in town, which was surgery day. He was the best doctor in Houston, so we trusted him and did our best to patiently wait for our questions to be answered.

Turns out, it was a bone spur on his fifth metatarsal on his right foot that had to be removed. Sometime prior, probably during one of his previous foot injuries, part of his bone had chipped off and it was now causing him extreme pain. They weren't sure if it had attached itself to another ligament (worst case scenario) or if it was just floating, unattached (best case scenario). Post surgery we were ecstatic to learn that it was best case scenario, and the Doctor expected an easy 6 week recovery. 

Fast forward 9 days and Nathan is off his pain medicine, back at work, driving, and able to put some pressure on his foot. He's still hitting the gym and working out every single day ON his crutches. (How's that for motivation?) We are feeling great about him being way ahead of his 6 week schedule. He hasn't complained even once, except for being really hungry post-op. He is such a trooper and probably the best surgery patient in the world. 

So aside from that lovely little unexpected speed bump in our summer, everything is feeling pretty normal. Which is great since we don't get normal very often. Nathan is back at work at Walkup Co, and I found some freelance work which I am absolutely loving. We've been spending all of our free minutes with friends and family, but also finding time to squeeze in all the little things we missed like watching live TV, and eating Chik Fil A. Nathan is in talks with his agents every single day, but nothing is official yet. We are looking forward to some domestic travel as we get ready to head to McAllen/South Padre Island for my best friend's wedding, and shortly after to Clearwater, Florida for a family vacation!
