April Wrap Up

Well, this is officially the last monthly update we will write from Luxembourg! Our flights are booked back to Texas on May 26th. It happens to be Memorial Day, which is extra exciting since it should be a day filled with family gatherings, being outdoors, and lots of authentic American food. We have many things to look forward to this month, but first a look back at April.


The highlight of this month was our trip to Barcelona, Spain. (More posts coming!) We spent 4 days there, but it only took about halfway through the first day for us both to agree that Barcelona was one of our favorite cities. Basically as soon as we saw the sun shining and stepped outside to realize it was about 70 degrees, we were hooked. The weather was amazing the whole time we were there, and it was so nice to get some sun after being bundled up in chilly Luxembourg for so long. We loved the activeness and energy of Barcelona, which is unique being that it is a major city located right on a beach. We went on a bike tour, hiked through Park Guell, lounged on the beach, and overall just enjoyed being outside. As I'm sure you all know by now, Nathan and I love to eat, so the quality of a trip is usually weighted heavily on how good the food is, and the food in Barcelona did not disappoint. The authentic tapas, pinchos, sangria, seafood, paella, and bocadillos were among some of my favorite meals I've ever had.

The rest of the month was focused on basketball and life here in Luxembourg. Nathan's team is now wrapping up their season with only three games left, and they have locked in a position in the top league next year. We spent a lot of time hanging out with our little Luxembourgish "family" which consists of the other American basketball players living in and around our city. We usually get together every off day for a family dinner, and this month we also celebrated Easter together with a barbecue. We are sad that everyone will be going their own separate ways in a few weeks, but thankful for the great friends and memories we have made this year.

Over the next 16 days we are squeezing in all of our "lasts" and trying to make sure we leave no stone unturned here in Luxembourg. It might sound a little crazy, being that we are 16 days out, but we've already started packing! Its not easy to fit your entire life back into the allotted 50 lb suitcases it came in, so we are starting early. If you are doing the math, you might be a little confused since I said "next 16 days," but earlier mentioned we were returning home on the 26th. Thats because in 16 days we leave to visit my dream destination: GREECE! We will be spending 5 days on the gorgeous island of Mykonos, and could not be more excited! We are treating this as our "honeymoon" since we never technically went on one after we got married. We have so much to look forward to this month!
